  • Actress Sunshine Rosman has shared insights into her life, career, and her role as Amanda Sparkles in Kemi Adetiba’s To Kill A Monkey.
  • The biracial star, born to a Nigerian mother and Canadian father, revealed she drew inspiration from high-class Lagos sex workers for her character, blending personal experiences with observations.

Though she nearly missed the role due to school exams, Rosman described landing it as destiny

Popular actress Sunshine Rosman has opened up about her career, life and her role in Kemi Adetiba’s To Kill a Monkey.

Born to an Imo mother and Canadian father, Rosman grew up in Lagos where her love for acting was nurtured. Inspired by Marilyn Monroe, she recalls staging plays with her sisters for their father.

Rosman revealed that her role as Amanda Sparkles in To Kill a Monkey was inspired by high-class Lagos “runs” girls. “Amanda Sparkles was a blend of my personal experiences and those of other women I’ve observed. Sometimes, I just sit in a club and watch people,” she said, adding that God’s grace helped her adapt.

She shared that she almost missed the role due to school exams but eventually got the call to join the project—an opportunity she described as destiny. From the film, she learned that “no one is completely innocent” and that women must rise when men bring them down.

The actress also clarified rumours that she speaks French fluently, noting she only studied basic classes at Alliance Française. With her biracial identity, Rosman admitted casting can be tricky, as she doesn’t fully look Nigerian or foreign.

On her boundaries, she stressed she avoids unnecessary intimacy scenes: “Too often, producers see a beautiful girl and the first instinct is to s*xualise her on screen. I am not interested in being reduced to an object of desire unless there’s a powerful message behind it.”

Beyond Nollywood, Rosman dreams of acting in Hollywood, Bollywood, and other global industries. She is also passionate about fashion, skincare, and charity work, continuing her family’s tradition of supporting orphans.
